SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

• Accuracy is essential in all submission materials, as verification of information is not guaranteed.  Any errors or omissions are the responsibility of the entrants.
• By submitting a project, the entrant agrees to permit GBCA to reprint provided images and information for use in its publications and programs.
• Submitted projects located outside the Philadelphia region will be judged with the same consideration as all other projects.  Please note however that a site visit by the judges may be limited by distance.
• The Safety Excellence Award is given by the GBCA Safety Committee.
• The Commitment to Diversity Award is judged by a panel of individuals involved with improving the diversity of the industry.

The judging process…

The Building Awards judging panel consists of industry professionals who are unaffiliated with the applicants.  There are 3 steps in the judging process:

1. Judges familiarize themselves with the electronic submissions.  Each project is evaluated by each judge individually.
2. The judges meet to discuss the projects together.  The evaluations are compared and a short list of finalists is chosen in each category, unless the judges feel there is a clear winner based on the submission alone.
3. Some “short list” candidates may require a site visit and further discussion.
4. The names of judges are announced at the event.

Some helpful tips…

• The quality of the submission can “make or break” even the best project.  Clear, concise, and grammatically correct writing is a must.
• Submissions come alive in the details. Entrants should strive to communicate heights, widths, distances, sizes, shapes, materials used, etc. to give the judges a true image of the project or scenario.
• If your project is selected for a site visit, this is an important time to have your project managers “sell” the project to the judges.  Often an enthusiastic project manager with a passion for that project can help to win the judges over.

ALL AWARD WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE 12TH ANNUAL CONSTRUCTION EXCELLENCE AWARDS EVENT ON NOVEMBER 3rd, 2008.
